A Seminar on ‘Cancer Prevention through Healthy Lifestyle’ was conducted at IAS PU on 16th November 2017 by students of BS 4th semester. Prof. Dr. Shaharyar, a renowned oncologist Prof. Areesha Zaman – Chief Medical Physicist at INMOL, Dr. Hammad from Cancer Care hospital and Mrs. Sajida Nisar- Incharge Director Institute of Business Administration (IBA) PU, joined as panelists and guest speakers. Prof Shaharyar explained to the audience the development of cancer cells in human body and its destructive effects if not treated in early stage. He shared about the healthy lifestyle that individuals should adopt i.e. to take balanced diet and being physically active in one’s daily routine. Myths about cancer development through use of various materials were also talked upon. Students took keen interest in the talk and asked many relevant questions from the team of doctors.
Mrs. Sajida Nisar shared her long journey of fight against cancer and her recovery phase from this illness. It was such an inspiration to empathize with the brave lady as she is a hope for many cancer survivors. Mrs. Sajida Nisar offered the doctors team to conduct such awareness sessions at IBA as well. She offered them the support of IBA in the form of funds they require for establishing the hospital. Towards the end of the seminar, Prof. Areesha Zaman addressed the audience about significance of donations in from of zakat, sadaqas and funds that can help the team of Cancer Care hospital to establish state-of-the-art facility for treating cancer patients completely free of charge including the palliative care. She presented a vote of thanks to the IAS students, management and administrative team including Mr. Malik Arif – Manager Operations, Ms. Rifat Umbreen Afzal – Asst. Registrar Admin and Ms. Sameen Zaki – Manager Career Advisory & External Linkages (CAEL) for supporting the cause and making the necessary arrangements to conduct the seminar.
On the behalf of IAS, Mrs. Sajida Nisar was requested to present a token of appreciation to the team of doctors for taking out the time form their schedules to conduct this awareness talk that is a first step towards eradicating this ever increasing epidemic from our country. IAS looks forward to lend more support to Cancer Care hospital by raising funds for the treatment of cancer patients.
