Faculty Development Orientation Program (FDOP) – 2018 was organized at Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) at Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) – University of the Punjab, Lahore, from 4th to 7th Sep 2018. The program aimed at imparting knowledge, enhancing skills and inculcating desired attitudes for professional proficiency of the newly inducted teaching community members. The sessions were based on experiential learning and participative discussion using the learner centered approach. Participants learned about University governance context including policies, regulations and practices and developed a broader understanding of their roles as teachers in view of the recent higher education reforms. Four day journey of learning was completed over a closing ceremony Chaired by Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin – Chairperson, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin addressed the participants on strategies to become an effective teacher by focusing on research and by engaging themselves in professional development opportunities along with teaching assignments. He emphasized on the need for continuous improvement, respect for art and culture and developing the desired behaviors for betterment of the community. He also shared the PHEC teaching and research support opportunities available for university teachers during his scholarly interaction with faculty members. Prof. Dr. Taqi Zahid Butt, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, congratulated the whole team of HRDC on successfully conducting the training and development program for faculty members. Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen reiterated that welcoming the new faculty and introducing them to the rich cultural context of the University along with providing them opportunities of mentoring and networking through this interaction were the key features of the program. She shared with participants that the best qualified resource persons were engaged in the program. She thanked all the participants, their HODs, especially the four Chinese participants and the Director, Confucius Centre, University of the Punjab for sparing their faculty for this developmental activity. Professor Jabeen thanked the Registrar Office of the University for inviting nominations for the program throughout the University of the Punjab. She presented a vote of thanks to all the speakers, the organizing team and the participants for their contribution towards making the program a huge success. Distinguished guests were presented mementos & flower bouquets and certificates were distributed among the participants.
