An International Symposium on “The Conundrum of Colonialism” was organized by the Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), University of the Punjab, on October 22, 2024. Faculty members and postgraduate research students were engaged in an intellectually stimulating experience during the event.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Rehana Parveen (Associate Professor at School of Law, University of Birmingham, UK) delivered a compelling talk on “The Importance of Decolonisation as a Critical Tool for Unpacking Western Hegemony.” Dr. Aamir Saeed (Professor, IAS, University of the Punjab) talked about continued forms of neocolonialism in the global south.
Professor Dr. Kashif Rathore (Director IAS) also shared his views on the subject and pointed to recolonizational forms through international structural adjustment assistance, regulatory regimes and international development initiatives. The importance of academic discourse for understanding forms of Western hegemony and policy options for decolonisation dominated the rich plenary discussion following key note addresses.
The keynote addresses and plenary discussion were moderated by Dr. Sidra Irfan, Associate Professor, IAS, who summarised the sections of the event and concluded by thanking the speakers and participants.
